Corran Ferry car services suspended after fault detected by engineer
Getty ImagesCar ferry services on a Highland Council-run route have been suspended after a fault was detected during an engineer's inspection.
The five-minute Corran Ferry crossing of Loch Linnhe links the wider Lochaber area with communities in the Ardgour peninsula in the west.
But on Saturday the local authority said the Maid of Glencoul required a replacement part, which has been ordered.
A spokesperson added delivery of the part, installation and testing would take "several days".
The council said contingency measures had been activated to ensure connectivity for residents, businesses and visitors.
A temporary foot passenger shuttle service between Ardgour and Corran is operating in line with the normal Corran Ferry timetable.
The Camusnagaul-Fort William service is also operating on an enhanced timetable to support increased demand.
Meanwhile, the A861 alternative route around the loch is expected to be busier than usual and drivers are asked to allow extra time for journeys.
In December the service was hit by three days of disruption after a steering fault was detected on the ferry.
