Man and teenager found dead in burned-out car after crash named

A man and a teenager who died following a crash near Fort William last month have been named by police.

David Allan Mackay, 44, and 16-year-old Kai Mathieson were found dead in a vehicle which had caught fire on the A830 at Corpach on 21 February.

Police Scotland said that they have established that the pair were travelling in a blue Vauxhall Astra and it was involved in a single-vehicle crash at about 01:45.

Emergency services were only alerted the incident, near the Annat Point industrial estate, at about 03:00.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and two bodies were found in the car.

Following the incident Lochaber High School paid tribute to the teenager, who had been pupil in S5.

"Our heartfelt thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time," their statement said.

Police Scotland said that they are continuing to make inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Officers have appealed for information from anyone who may be able to help with inquiries.

Sgt Calum MacAulay said his thoughts were with the family and friends of those involved.
