Man and teenager die in Highland car crash

Two people have been found dead following a single-vehicle car crash near Fort William in the west Highlands.

Emergency services were called to reports of a vehicle on fire on the A830 in Corpach at around 03:00 on Saturday. The fire was extinguished and two bodies were discovered inside the car.

Police say formal identification is still to take place but the families of a 44-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy have been informed.

Officers believe the car, a blue Vauxhall Astra, crashed at around 01:45.

Lochaber High School said the 16-year-old was one of their fifth-year students.

They said support services would be made available to affected pupils and staff.

A statement added: "Our heartfelt thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."

The A830 Fort William to Mallaig Road was closed for more than 12 hours following the accident.

Sgt Calum MacAulay said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the people who died in this crash.

"It's vital we establish exactly what happened and I'm appealing for anyone with information to come forward."

He asked anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to contact Police Scotland.
