Overnight resurfacing work is taking place, closing some key roads for drivers.

Somerset Council will be resurfacing roads in and around Taunton and Wellington to make the roads safer and correct potholes.

As part of the rolling programme, resurfacing works will begin on the A38 between Wellington and Taunton from the evening of 26 February and a road closure will be in place from 19:30 GMT at Chelston Roundabout and move towards Taunton over a 2-3 week period on week nights.

There will be no access to the M5 at Wellington during the works via the A38 with a signed diversion in place via the M5, with non-motorway traffic diverted via Trull and Blackdown.

Somerset Council's lead member for transport and waste services, Richard Wilkins, said: "This is an extensive programme of work to improve road surfaces in two important Somerset towns.

"As always, the team will do their best to get the work completed as quickly and efficiently as possible – please do liaise with them if you are a resident and need to raise any issues around access."
