Weekend train disruption over engineering work

Rail passengers have been warned of major disruption affecting lines in and out of Birmingham this weekend.

According to National Rail, engineering work has been scheduled to take place between Birmingham New Street, and Sandwell and Dudley, closing all lines.

Disruption is expected throughout Saturday and Sunday with some routes diverted, retimed or cancelled altogether.

A rail replacement bus has also been set up between Birmingham New Street and Tipton, as well as Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.

Avanti West Coast has said its services between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton have been retimed and diverted via Bescot Stadium.

It also warned some of its services between Wolverhampton and Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly could be cancelled.

CrossCountry said none of its trains would call at Wolverhampton but stated passengers could still use their ticket at no extra cost on alternative rail services between Birmingham New Street and Stafford.

London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway said its services between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street would run to an amended timetable but at a reduced level of frequency.

It also said they would not call at Smethwick Galton Bridge or Coseley.

The operator's trains between Walsall and Wolverhampton are to run between Walsall and Birmingham New Street only.

And train services between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury are to run between Tipton and Shrewsbury only but would call additionally at Coseley.

Transport for Wales said none of its services would operate between Birmingham International, Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.

But customers are advised to use tickets at no extra cost on West Midlands Railway rail replacement buses between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.
