A kayaker who died after he went missing in a river has been named as Ronald Meade at an inquest.

Meade got into difficulty near the Great Western Bridge on the River Exe in Tiverton, Devon, at about 15:50 GMT on 24 January, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

His body was found five days later and retrieved from the river near Bickleigh. Area coroner Nicholas Lane said the 40-year old, of no fixed abode, disappeared from view in the river.

He said the final cause of death had not been determined and the inquest at Devon coroner's court in Exeter was adjourned.
