Man charged with police officer's attempted murder

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer in Devon.

Guy Pottle appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday accused of attacking a female PC after officers were initially called to a property in Drake Road, Newton Abbot, shortly after midnight on Tuesday to reports of an assault.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the officer was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

Pottle, 39, from Exeter, has also been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. No pleas were entered for either charge and Pottle is next due to appear at Exeter Crown Court on 12 March.
