Family festival to celebrate seaside resort

Katie-Lou Green says Cleethorpes has "everything here on our doorstep"

Families can enjoy a "real day out" at a one-day festival taking place in Cleethorpes on Saturday, organisers say.

Love Cleethorpes will feature live performances, creative workshops, street theatre and installations.

It will be held in several locations in the town centre, including Market Place, St Peter's Street, Sea View Street and the beach, on Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00 GMT.

Katie-Lou Green, of Checkmate Productions, which is organising the event on behalf of North East Lincolnshire Council, described it as "a real celebration of the local area".

She added: "Families and people can make a real day out of being here in Cleethorpes."

St Peter's Church will be hosting crafting activities, a community mural, storytelling sessions with author Katie Hopper, a drop-in animation workshop and a silent disco.

In Sea View Street, live music will be performed by Spencer Booth, All For One Choir and Mouse and the Moon. There will also be a makers market.

Meanwhile, a community dog show, which will be held on the beach near the pier.

Traders will be holding exhibitions and shop window displays, while a trail of "Loved by Locals" red plaques will celebrate residents' favourite people, places and businesses.

Green, who lives in Cleethorpes, said: "We've just got everything here on our doorstep and I think we do take it for granted.

"We really don't need to go anywhere else in the country.

"We can have our staycations here. Our children love it... it is just such a special place to live and be."
