The Who's frontman has made a surprise visit to children receiving treatment for cancer at a Southampton hospital.

Roger Daltrey visited the teenage and young persons cancer unit at University Hospital Southampton on Wednesday.

The hospital said he made the visit to "spread some festive cheer" as patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.

The 79-year-old musician spent time chatting to children who will be spending Christmas Day in hospital.

Daltrey has organised the charity's annual concerts at the Royal Albert Hall for 23 years to raise money for the cancer care and support charity.

This year the week-long line-up in March saw Alan Carr and Harry Hill, Kasabian, Jake Bugg and Isle of Wight's Wet Leg perform for free to raise money.
