Man killed crossing road was 'devoted' father
Family photoA man who was killed when he was hit by a vehicle as he crossed a road was a "truly hardworking and devoted father", his children have said.
Stephen Allen, 64, was on his routine morning walk when he was struck in Bath Road in Calcot, near the Lidl supermarket, at about 06:30 GMT on 26 November.
A driver for Reading Buses, his children said he was a "familiar, friendly face to many in the community", who studied history and archaeology throughout his life.
Two men, both from Reading, have been arrested in connection with Mr Allen's death, with one bailed and the other released pending further inquiries.
Mr Allen's family said he was "full of hopes and dreams for a not-so-distant retirement spent reading books, walking the fields, spotting aeroplanes and enjoying time with the people he loved.
"We are devastated that he will not get to see that future.
"We will miss his terrible sense of humour and the countless dad jokes, his immense strength of character, and the limitless pride he held for us, his children.
"He gave so much of himself to us, and our world has been turned upside down by his absence from it.
"We would like to thank the emergency services and all those who came to his aid, and we ask for privacy as we begin to process this unimaginable loss."
A 27-year-old man from Reading was arrested last week on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and was bailed.
Another man, 41, also from Reading, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and was released pending further inquiries.
