Described as a "devoted father" by his family, Stephen Allen, 64, was a driver for Reading Buses

A car driver who police wanted to speak to as a possible witness after a man died when he was struck crossing a road has come forward.

Stephen Allen, 64, was out on his early morning walk when he was struck by at least one vehicle on the A4 Bath Road in Calcot near Lidl on 26 November at about 06:30 GMT.

Thames Valley Police said the driver of the car had come forward shortly after an appeal. Captured on footage it appeared to be a silver or grey hatchback.

Two men, both from Reading, have been arrested in connection with Mr Allen's death, with one bailed with conditions and the other released under investigation.

Mr Allen's family said he was "a proud driver for Reading Buses and a familiar, friendly face to many in the community."

Paying tribute his family said he was "a truly hardworking and devoted father.

"Dad poured all of his energy into making sure his family was looked after."

A 27-year-old man from Reading was arrested on 2 December on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and bailed with conditions while investigations continue.

Another man, 41, also from Reading, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and released under investigation.
