A family of swans has been rescued from "deep mud" in a Herefordshire village and rehomed.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene in Clehonger on Thursday after nearby residents became concerned for the birds.

A spokesperson for Hereford Fire Station said the firefighters found the swans had been left stranded in mud, after the warm weather had dried up most of their pond.

The spokesperson added that after freeing the swans and their cygnets they were rehomed on the River Wye in Hereford following consultation with wildlife conservationists.
