An exhibition tracing the history of Port Vale football club has gone on display at a Stoke-on-Trent museum.

Memorabilia on show at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery includes significant shirts and silverware, such as the club's 2022 League Two play-off promotion trophy.

The club's chief executive Matt Hancock said it was "fantastic" to showcase its history to both Port Vale supporters and football enthusiasts alike.

Called A Step Back in Time, the free exhibition is on until 8 September.

"It's great to show the history and heritage of the football club, what football means to its community," stated Mr Hancock, who said he looked forward to lots of people coming through the museum's doors.

To see items stretching back decades was humbling, as so much had happened at the club, he added.

Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Lyn Sharpe, said one of the fascinating aspects of the exhibition was how the team's kit had changed over the years.

"I'm learning about football heritage, but also about culture and fashion and what our city is about," she said.

"I would advise everybody to come, even if you are a Stoke fan," the mayor added.
