A football exhibition has had tens of thousands visitors come to see memorabilia belonging to the sport's greatest players, like Pele and Lionel Messi.

Football: Designing the Beautiful Game at Wolverhampton Art Gallery displays items from football clubs across the region.

There are objects on loan from The National Football Museum in Manchester and Fifa's World Football Museum in Zurich.

Coinciding with excitement around the Euros in Germany, the exhibition has had 15,000 visitors and will be available to attend until September 1.

Councillor Chris Burden, from City of Wolverhampton Council, said: "The football exhibition is proving to be a huge success with over 15,000 visitors having already attended, which will only increase with the summer holidays approaching!

“With England playing in the final on Sunday it's a day out which will really get you in the mood.

“It is a fantastic free exhibition that is on until September with displays ranging from Pele’s boots, to one of the very first footballs, and from a 1966 England shirt to Messi's iconic number 10 shirt.

"Whether you are a football fan or not there is something for everyone."

The exhibition features a screening of a film about France's Zinedine Zidane.

"Zidane, a 21st Century Portrait" follows the French star in real time over the course of a single match in 2005.

It was assembled from footage shot by 17 synchronised cameras and captured Zidane from multiple angles.

The exhibition at the gallery is free and tickets can be booked online.
