Exploratory excavation works on a section of the main road through a Manx village ahead of a major refurbishment have been extended by a week.

The project on High Street in Port St Mary, which began at the start of the month, would now be completed no later than 19 December, the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) said.

The extension was needed due to a combination of the recent poor weather and "a requirement to extend the scope of exploratory works", it said.

A road closure along the street has been extended until the completion of the works as a result.

As part of the extended project, a slit trench would be created at the end of Bay View Road, with that work carried out under temporary traffic lights, the DOI said.

A major project to reconstruct the carriageway is due to begin early next year.
