The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice.

The alert is in place from Friday between 00:00 and 12:00 GMT, and covers parts of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex and Northamptonshire.

An area of sleet and snow is expected to move south-east across England, lasting approximately two or three hours in any one place.

"Where snow falls, up to 2cm (0.8in) is likely for some, and perhaps as much as 5cm (2in) of snow possible in a few spots, especially higher ground of north Wales and north-west England," the Met Office warned.

People have been warned to expect some travel disruption due to the snow and ice.

Some roads and railways could be affected, with longer journey times, and there could be icy patches on roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Temperatures on Friday are expected to only reach about 3C with lows below freezing.
