Roadworks paused to help football fans get home
Action Images/ReutersResurfacing roadworks on the A14 will be paused to help football supporters get home after Ipswich Town's clash with Hull City.
Fans will head to Portman Road tonight for the Tractor Boys' Championship clash against the Tigers, with both teams currently on 60 points.
To ensure their journeys to and from the 19:45 GMT tie are straightforward, National Highways said it will lift its overnight road closure between Newmarket and Stowmarket.
"This is to ensure no delays for home and away supporters travelling to and from the game," a National Highways spokesperson said.
Town fans heading to Felixstowe after the final whistle, however, will have to embark on a diversion, due to signage work on the eastbound carriageway between Seven Hills and Trimley.
It means motorists will have to leave the A14 at junction 58 and drive through Trimley via Felixstowe Road and High Road, before rejoining the A14 at junction 59.
"Thank you for your patience while we carry out this essential maintenance to keep the A14 safe and reliable," a highways spokesperson added.
Martin Giles/BBCThe resurfacing project on the westbound carriageway resumed yesterday and, apart from this evening, will see the road closed between 20:00 and 06:00 until 16 March.
The resurfacing on the A14 is part of a larger project being carried out between junctions 47 for Woolpit and the Copdock Interchange at junction 55.
"We understand and recognise how disruptive closures on this section of the A14 are to local residents," a spokesperson said.
"However, repairs are needed to extend the life of the carriageway, minimising the need for more extensive repairs in the future. We're making good progress."
