Ridicule at 'unbelievable' new 'La Paulente' sign
Jack DearmanIslanders have talked about their "embarrassment" online after a blunder with a road sign in Jersey.
A photo of the sign in St Ouen which misspelled La Pulente as La Paulente was shared online at the weekend.
Jack Dearman, who posted it online questioned where exactly La Paulente was, while others called it a "unbelievable" and a "fiasco".
A spokesperson for the Infrastructure Department said it had since been corrected.
The sign was located on Mont Pinel, on the road that leads down to the Jersey Pearl end of St Ouen's Bay.
Before it was corrected, a picture of the sign was posted on a social media page for residents of St Ouen.
Commenting on it, one islander wrote: "Unbelievable that such a simple job can be messed up… who checks these important matters?"
Another said it was a "further embarrassment for the island".
Another respondent said: "Oh dear. At least the arrows are pointing the right way".
Others were quick to poke fun at the mix-up, with one person saying it was "probably overseen... from outside the island" and another saying they thought the fictitious location could be in "St Won's Bay [St Ouen's Bay]".
A spokesperson for the Infrastructure and Environment Department said the mistake "had been spotted and quickly resolved".
