A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a terrorism offence.

Counter Terrorism Policing South East said its officers had arrested the teenager on suspicion of possession of material that may be of use for terrorist purposes in Didcot, Oxfordshire, on Thursday.

Officers were still conducting searches at residential properties and surrounding locations in the Didcot area on Friday as part of the investigation, police said.

The teenage boy remained in police custody, the force added.

Ch Supt Ben Clark said the arrest had come as part of a "pre planned operation", and that there was not believed to be any risk to the wider public.

"Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area, and if you would like to speak with someone, please feel free to approach our officers who will be happy to help," he added.
