The man, 60, died after being struck by a van in Brandon

A 60-year-old man has died after being hit by a van.

Police were called to Sawmills Lane in Brandon, near Durham, at 16:45 GMT on Friday.

Paul Smith, 60, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after the crash but later died from his injuries, Durham Police said.

The driver of the white Citroen Dispatch van, who stopped at the scene, was not injured.

Durham Police is investigating the crash and officers have appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact the force.
