Man denies double murder and firearms charges

A man has denied murder and firearms offences after two men were killed in a shooting.

Duaine Mills and Syed Zain Ali were shot in Leicester Street, Wolverhampton, during the early hours of 19 September. Mills, 28, was killed when shots were fired and Ali, 32, died five days later.

Maneer Khan, 38, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court by video link from HMP Dovegate in Staffordshire where he pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and two firearms offences.

Khan, from Walsall, was remanded in custody for trial in July, alongside co-defendant 34-year-old Yaseen Patel who denied assisting an offender.

Patel, of Bromford Way in Birmingham is accused of driving Khan to HM Passport Office to apply for a passport under a false identity.

Khan, of St Catharine's Close, also denied a count of fraud.

Their trial is expected to start on 20 July and last three weeks.
