Work is under way on South Promenade, Hornsea

Work has started on a scheme to repair parts of Hornsea's seafront damaged by storms.

The road and footpath on South Promenade have been impaired by recent weather and cold temperatures, East Riding of Yorkshire Council said.

The road between Broadway and Hornsea Burton Road will be closed on Thursday and Friday between 08:00 and 17:00 GMT for preparation work.

The main work will start on Monday and is due to take between six and eight weeks to complete. The road will be closed completely during this time.

Diversions will be in place and the Hornsea rescue slipway will remain open.

The council said there might be temporary restrictions on vehicle access to businesses, and pedestrians might have to follow diversions.

Access for bin collections, deliveries and emergency services will not be affected.

It is estimated the cost of the work will be about £250,000.

Paul West, the council's cabinet member for transport, said: "While this isn't an ideal location to be closed, it is essential that we repair this road and strengthen it against the elements before the summer season begins."
