Firefighters have rescued a lizard that was stuck in a tree.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it received reports of an animal in need of rescue on Hearn Road in Woodley at 19:35 BST on Friday evening.

Upon arrival, a crew from Wokingham Fire Station discovered that, contrary to the often repeated 'cat up a tree' stereotype, it was in fact a lizard stuck in the branches.

The firefighters used a ladder to rescue the reptile before placing him in the care of its owner.
