Three children who raised the alarm after finding a man unresponsive have been commended for their bravery.

Jacob and Patrick, both 10, and Poppy, 14, were playing in Lakenheath, Suffolk, on New Year's Eve when they found the man lying by a riverbank.

After they flagged down a couple who were able to call 999, an ambulance took the man to hospital.

Simon Chase, chief paramedic at the East of England Ambulance Service, said: "It was a real pleasure to present them with bravery awards and to recognise that what they did that day was truly remarkable."

He added: "Because of Jacob, Poppy and Patrick's quick actions, we were able to assign an ambulance promptly and get the urgent care to the man when he needed it most."

Jacob's mum, Jade, said: "The magnitude of what had happened [really hit them] once the ambulance arrived.

"The whole community in Lakenheath has praised their actions, and to now receive a bravery award from the ambulance service is very special for all three of them.

"I'm very proud of how quickly they acted... they were amazing."
