A cow has been winched to safety by firefighters after falling down a hole in Shropshire.

Four appliances were sent to Pulverbatch, near Shrewsbury, at about 17:45 GMT on Monday following reports the animal had become stuck.

Crews worked for several hours to rescue it, using two winches, tools and restraints. "Brilliant teamwork" brought about a successful rescue, Amber Watch Wellington said.

The animal was sedated by a vet throughout the operation to minimise stress, the service said, with the team supervised by a specialist rescue instructor.

Amber Watch was joined at the scene by Red Watch, also from Wellington, and firefighters from Minsterley Fire Station.
