Firefighters were called Kirby Malzeard in North Yorkshire, on Friday evening

A dog and its owner have been rescued after getting themselves stuck in a village well.

Emergency services were called to Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, at about 19:00 GMT on Friday after the animal tumbled 20ft (6m) and its owner - who was lowered down to rescue it - could not get back out.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said teams from Ripon and Masham stations attended and successfully retrieved the pair.

A spokesperson said: "Crew used working-at-height equipment to lower a harness to the person enabling the crew to pull them out."
