Police were called to the Co-op in Shrewsbury at about 21:00 GMT on Monday

Police have taken two men into custody on suspicion of kidnap following an altercation at a pub police believe happened shortly before a crash in a supermarket car park.

Officers were called to the Co-op store on Mount Pleasant Road in Shrewsbury at about 21:00 GMT on Monday after reports a blue Mazda drove into a parked car.

The West Mercia force said the Mazda's driver and passenger were aggressive to a woman in the other vehicle, then left the scene.

Police believe the pair had already been involved in an incident with a further individual, a man, outside the Station Wagon pub. Police later detained two men, aged 35 and 38. They remain in police custody as investigations progress.

Officers were called to reports at about 21:15 GMT that a man in his 20s had been found in a "distressed state" in the Harmer Hill area. He was uninjured, police said.

Det Insp Tim Atherton said the parties were known to each other.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed any part of these incidents, whether outside the Station Wagon Pub or in the Co‑op car park," he said.

He added the force was especially keen to speak to anyone who might have seen, or captured on camera in the area, a blue Mazda between 21:00 and 21:30 GMT, or on the A528 between Shrewsbury and Wem.

"Officers will remain in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance," he said.
