Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written by Lewis Carroll in 1865

An exhibition about the author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland will tour six libraries in 2026.

The display features letters and other records from the personal life of the Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who wrote under the pen name Lewis Carroll.

Surrey History Centre, which preserves the original documents, is displaying copies at Woking library in January.

Dodgson owned The Chestnuts, a house in Guildford, and was buried in The Mount Cemetery in 1898.

The author bought the Guildford property in 1868, after his father died and he needed a place to house his six unmarried sisters.

As well as writing classic children's books, he worked as a mathematician, and stayed at the house when he was not lecturing at Oxford University.

The exhibition is due to visit the following libraries:

  • January - Woking library
  • February - Staines library
  • March - Guildford library
  • April - Farnham library
