Notts County's game on Sunday among football fixtures to fall to freezing temperatures

Five of Sunday's League Two matches have been postponed due to the freezing temperatures following seven in the National League on Saturday.

The games at Bromley, Harrogate Town, Notts County, Salford City and Swindon Town were all called off more than 24 hours before the scheduled kick-off times with conditions deemed unplayable.

And there will be 08:30 and 09:00 GMT inspections at Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham United on Sunday morning to decide whether their games against Luton Town and Mansfield Town can go ahead.

In National League, fixtures at Aldershot, Rochdale, Southend and Woking all fell by the wayside on Saturday morning.

And Altrincham's game at home to Morecambe was called off six minutes before the 15:00 kick-off, due to what the club said were "safety concerns during the warm-up".

A subsequent Altrincham statement said: "As a club, we know how disappointing late decisions are for travelling fans in particular, and we have ourselves been on the receiving end of similar postponements at away fixtures in the past.

"The club's clear preference is for any match to go ahead, subject at all times to player safety and welfare. However, once match officials arrive at the stadium, the authority to determine whether a fixture is played rests solely with the referee. clubs do not have the jurisdiction to call a game off.

"The decision to postpone today's fixture was therefore made by the referee following inspections of the pitch and discussions involving both managers."

The top-of-the-table match between Boreham Wood and York City and Scunthorpe United v Sutton United had already been called off on Friday.

Yellow warnings for snow and ice came into force for large parts of England at midnight on Thursday, remaining until midday on Friday.

Further alerts have been issued for over the weekend and into the early part of next week.

An Aldershot statement said: "The club want to reassure fans that the correct measures were taken to ensure the best possible chance for the match to go ahead, but the overnight weather has deemed the pitch unplayable for today's fixture."

Their game with Solihull Moors has been rescheduled for next Saturday, 10 January, with a 15:00 GMT kick-off.

Rochdale were due to take on Brackley at Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium, where they played Hartlepool United on Tuesday, losing 2-1, because work is ongoing on their own pitch.

"Despite the best efforts of Accrington Stanley's groundstaff, with frost covers being laid straight after the full-time whistle on Tuesday, the sub-freezing temperatures overnight mean the surface is unplayable," said a statement.

No new date has yet been scheduled for the Rochdale, Woking and Southend matches.
