Ports of Jersey to run cafe at Elizabeth Harbour
Kate Jennings/BBCThe Ports of Jersey will take over the operation of a cafe at Elizabeth Harbour - because no local companies wanted to take it on.
The existing restaurant closed during the pandemic - and since then Ports has not been able to find a company to operate there for the long term.
JP Restaurants had a contract to run the Shipyard cafe from 2021 until this year, but did not want to extend that.
Ports said it would take the venue on from the end of March, with food from a local supplier such as hot rolls and pastries and grab and go options. It has also applied for permission to be allowed to sell alcohol.
Captain William Sadler, Jersey harbour master, said: "We see this as a chance to deliver real improvements to the passenger experience and to the thousands of people who use the port every year."
Ports said car passengers, would be able to pick up grab and go food on the way through the port and foot passengers could use the outdoor seating area, play area and toilets once they have passed security.
The terminal was upgraded last year, with a new departure lounge for passengers, a children's play area and facilities for passengers with disabilities.
