Stolen Santa left by fleeing thief back at hospital
Rob HardwickA large Santa that was dumped at a pub by a man fleeing police has been returned to its rightful place at a nearby hospital.
The 5ft (1.5m) tall figure was dropped by the suspect who ran into The Knights Quest in Blackheath, Rowley Regis, on Saturday, pursued by officers.
After the man was arrested, police officers asked the pub to look after Santa, who became a bit of a talking point, said Rob Hardwick, co-owner of the pub.
A member of his team later saw an appeal for the white-bearded figure's return to Rowley Regis Hospital, prompting Mr Hardwick to take it back, along with a few mince pies and some chocolate.
He said the police officers asked the pub to look after Santa because they had been unable to locate any report of it being lost or stolen.
It was put on display inside the pub, which is run by Rob and Sam Schofield, until the social media appeal was seen on Tuesday.
Rob HardwickWhen the pub got in touch with the hospital, Mr Hardwick said staff were "absolutely delighted and relieved" to hear he had been found.
The decoration had been on display there every Christmas for a number of years and Mr Hardwick was told the hospital reception "was not right without him".
He said he had no plans to get a replacement though because the pub already had "lots of other little Santas going on".
Debbie Wood, Ward Service Officer at Rowley Regis Hospital, said: "When he went missing, we were heartbroken, but thanks to our wonderful neighbours, he came home to huge applause from patients and staff.
"We're so grateful to our local community for helping bring Christmas cheer back to Rowley Regis Hospital."
