A family say they are "devastated" after thieves stole a collection of Christmas inflatables from their front garden.

The festive characters were snatched from outside a house in Woodthorpe, York, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Jason Fletcher said his family had built up the collection over the last few years, mainly as a fun idea for his children.

Appealing for the items to be returned, he said he was unable to afford to replace the stolen inflatables.

"I'm devastated because I started doing it when the kids were younger," he said.

"We live near Woodthorpe Primary School so the kids love to see it when they come home from school, they always come by and stop to look at them."

The display comprised a 7ft (2.1m) Santa, a 7ft snowman and another Santa popping out of a present.

"I tend to do it every year, but I usually have them on the garage," Mr Fletcher added.

"I was sick of going up and down the garage when they fell down in the wind so I thought I'd have them in the garden this year.

"But I woke up this morning and that was it, they were gone."

The family has put up a social media appeal for information and have asked their neighbours for CCTV footage that could give them some answers.

"It's been shared lots of times by people already so fingers crossed," Mr Fletcher said.

"They're about £150 altogether those three inflatables over the years, I can't afford to replace them."
