At this stage police do not know what drug has caused the deaths

One of three men who died after taking drugs in Lancashire may have taken a contaminated batch of heroin, police have said.

The men, two aged in their 30s and 40s from Morecambe and a man in his 50s from Carnforth, died on separate occasions earlier this month but "over a relatively short space of time", Lancashire Police said.

One line of inquiry is that one man may have taken contaminated heroin, and officers have advised drug users to seek immediate medical attention if they start to feel unwell.

However, the force said there appeared to be no link between the cases and no evidence that the other two deaths were caused in the same way.

"There is no reliable way to know precisely what you're putting into your body or whether to know if it's safe," the force said in a post on Facebook.
