The Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning for rain for Thursday

Another yellow warning for more rain in south-west England has been issued by the Met Office.

The weather warning is in place from midday on Thursday until 03:00 GMT Friday and covers areas of Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset.

The rain is expected to lead to transport disruption, including train cancellations, and "exacerbated flooding" in some areas, due to existing flood water following heavy rain earlier this week, forecasters say.

It comes after Storm Ingrid on Saturday and Storm Chandra on Monday and Tuesday battered parts of Devon and Cornwall - forcing schools, businesses and pubs to close, people having to be rescued from their own homes, and structural damage.

The Met Office said a band of rain would arrive across Cornwall on Thursday afternoon and then move north east across the warning area through the evening, clearing early on Friday.

Forecasters said the rain was likely to "last for a few hours" in any one location but would be "heavy at times".

They said the likely impact of the rainfall was "higher than normal due to saturated ground and ongoing flooding following Storm Chandra".

The River Otter was among those affected, reaching its highest ever recorded level at Ottery St Mary in Devon on Tuesday.

Devon County Council said some schools in the county remained closed since Tuesday due to the widespread flooding.

Flood warnings and alerts have also been issued by The Environment Agency for areas such as the A38 to Seaton, the River Fowey at Lostwithiel, the River Exe, River Clyst and the River Teign from Chudleigh to Kingsteignton.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said there were cancellations to services between Exeter and north Devon, Par and Newquay and alterations to services between Liskeard and Looe.

The Mill on the Exe pub in Exeter, Devon, which closed its doors due to flooding on Tuesday, said contractors were on site on Wednesday "to strengthen the defences and assess the extent of any damage, which we're not yet able to determine".

A spokesperson for the pub, owned by St Austell Brewer, said its flood defences had been "overwhelmed".

"We plan to reopen the upstairs area tomorrow. The downstairs will remain closed until it's safe to welcome guests back."
