Land across Northamptonshire could be sold in a bid to regenerate town centres.

Sites in Wellingborough, Rushden, Kettering and Desborough will be discussed when North Northamptonshire Council's executive meets on 17 February.

Council leader Martin Griffiths said: "We are keen to ensure that communities across North Northamptonshire are safe for residents whilst providing opportunities for regeneration, and disposing of these surplus assets will help towards achieving this overall aim."

In January, the Reform UK-led authority voted to knock down existing buildings on Saunders Close, Kettering, to tackle anti-social behaviour, and that land is one of the places now being considered for sale.

Officers will also assess if that site as well as land currently occupied by a former care home in Beech Close, Desborough, could be used for new council housing.

Another site listed for potential sale is the Jacksons Lane car park in Wellingborough, which the authority said had faced anti-social behaviour such as fly-tipping but could be suitable for a mixed use development.

Elsewhere in the town, the council has suggested Glenvale Park could be the site of a commercial development.

A parcel of land on Rectory Road, Rushden, currently used by Rushden Historical Transport Society under a lease, might be transferred to the group following negotiations, according to a council report.
