Students on work experience repair listed library
North Northamptonshire CouncilCollege students on work experience are helping restore a Grade II listed library.
Students from Moulton College studying stonemasonry are assisting with repairs to the roof of Kettering Library and the Alfred East Art Gallery.
The building that the library and gallery are in, known as Cornerstone, was damaged during heavy rain in 2023.
Richard Ball, head of heritage skills at the college, said: "Whilst we can teach them skills and knowledge at college, nothing beats real site experience."
Traditional skills
The North Northamptonshire Council initiative aims to strengthen technical skills and boost job prospects.
Wayne Gray, site manager, added: "These buildings are an important part of Kettering's story, and giving students the chance to work on them helps connect traditional skills with the next generation of craftspeople."
The library has temporarily relocated to the upper floor of Cornerstone's modern extension.
