Seven charged with violent disorder after Aldershot protest

Two more men have been charged with violent disorder following a protest outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Aldershot.

A police officer was injured when about 200 people gathered outside the Potters International Hotel on 31 July.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said while the majority of people there "gathered in a peaceful manner", some disorder was reported but officers were able to disperse the group quickly.

The two men - and five other people charged with the same offence on Friday - have been given conditional bail. All seven are due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

They are:

  • Jamie Lee Turvey, 34, from Farnborough
  • Alby Brannan, 18, from Ash
  • Joe Howell, 19, from Ash (also charged with assault of an emergency worker)
  • Kieron Marney, 25, from Ash
  • Perrie Fisher, 28, from Farnham
  • Cameron Bowling, 40, from Farnborough
  • Clive Patfield, 60, from Farnham
