Landmark F-5 replica jet transported to new home

A replica of an F-5 Tiger II jet will be the new gate guard at an RAF heritage centre after fears it could have been scrapped at its former home.

RAF Sculthorpe Heritage Centre, near Fakenham, Norfolk, was gifted the aircraft by RAF Alconbury in Cambridgeshire, where it had stood for almost 50 years.

On Wednesday, it was transported the 70 miles (112 km) from Alconbury to Sculthorpe after fundraising efforts and it will be fully restored over the next few months.

Colonel Michael Flemming, Commander, 423d Air Base Group at Royal Air Force Alconbury, said: "I have been stationed here multiple times, so it will be a bit sad, but again there is pride that I feel that it has done such a good job to guard our base over the last four decades."
