Bondi hero Ahmed al Ahmed has received A$2.5m (£1.24m) in community donations from his hospital bed as he is treated for his shooting injuries.

Mr Ahmed sprang out from behind a car and wrestled a gun off one of the attackers on Sunday. He was shot multiple times, and may lose his arm.

At least 15 people were killed in the attack at Bondi Beach on Sunday, but more people undoubtedly would have been harmed if it weren't for Mr al Ahmed.

Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Mr Ahmed in hospital this week, calling the father-of-two "the best of our country".
