Archive: 'Kung fu vicars' take self-defence lessons
There was a moment of TV gold on this day in 1997 when a group of Church of England vicars were put through martial arts training.
Members of the clergy from Northamptonshire were filmed taking part in a self-defence lesson.
The classes, led by a martial arts expert who worked for the police, were a response to an increase in attacks, particularly in inner cities.
Those taking part in the class said knowing what to do would give them more confidence if they were ever in danger. The "king fu vicars" footage first appeared on the BBC's News at One.
