Man and woman in hospital after M80 crash
Police ScotlandTwo people have been taken to hospital after a single-car crash closed a section of the M80 in central Scotland.
Police said a male driver and a female passenger were injured, the man critically, when their white Mitsubishi pick-up crashed at about 13:30.
The motorway was shut northbound from junctions 5, Cumbernauld, until after junction 7, Haggs.
Officers said it was likely to remain closed for several hours for investigation work.
The M80 northbound remained closed from J5, Cumbernauld, into Saturday evening while officers carried out investigations.
Difficult driving conditions
The 52-year-old male driver of the white Mitsubishi L200 pick-up and his female passenger, 47, were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
The man suffered a serious head injury. Medical staff described his condition as critical. The woman is not believed to be seriously injured, Police Scotland said.
Across Scotland, high winds and heavy rain resulted in difficult driving conditions.
Flooding on the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow led to a lane closure for a period and resulted in significant delays.
The Met Office issued a yellow warning for possible snow showers across much of central and north west Scotland.
