West Sussex fire helmets to have artwork painted on for charity

Firefighters' helmets which have been worn at blazes are being used as canvases for a charity art project.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has called on artists to submit their design ideas.

The 25 winning designs will be painted onto the helmets, before they are exhibited at Worthing Town Hall and auctioned off for charity.

Each of the helmets has previously been worn by a firefighter attending an incident.

Mark Andrews, acting chief fire officer for the service, said: "I am really pleased that we can reuse these fire helmets and give them a new lease of life, all for a brilliant charity that does so much to support fire and rescue service staff and their families.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing the marvellous makeovers of our fire helmets."

Louise Furneaux, from The Fire Fighters Charity, which will receive funds from the project, added: " I want to thank everyone involved in organising this fantastic event.

"We can't wait to see the finished designs."

Artists have until by 2 February 2024 to submit their helmet designs.
