A fire broke out at a bungalow in Horsham on New Year's Eve afternoon, leaving one person in hospital.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (WSFRS) and South East Coast Ambulance Service received reports of the blaze at a property on the town's Farhalls Crescent at about 12:45 GMT on Wednesday.

An ambulance team treated one patient at the scene who was then taken to East Surrey Hospital for further treatment.

People have been warned to stay away from the area for the time being to allow fire crews to ensure the situation is under control.

A WSFRS spokesperson said four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were used at the scene.

"Upon arrival firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began bringing the fire under control using four jets and two high pressure hose reels," they added.

"Fortunately all occupants are accounted for."
