'Christmas miracle' wedding donated for cancer patient

A bride going through cancer treatment said her wedding was a "Christmas miracle" after 33 suppliers and the venue provided everything for free.

Katelen Cheshire, 23, and Billy Green, 29, from Telford tied the knot last week in a Christmas-themed wedding in Shrewsbury.

Ms Cheshire has been in remission twice for stage four Hodgkin's lymphoma but found out this year it had returned.

"It was so breathtaking what everyone did, it blew everyone away," she said.

Ms Cheshire added: "They all did amazing to make mine and Billy's wedding miracle and we can't thank them enough."

Cindy Edwards from the venue, Stanford Farm, said it was like their own version of TV show Don't Tell The Bride.

"I cried when we showed them it," she said. "Katelen and Billy had no idea what we were doing.

"I was allowed a free rein and a free budget because it was free."

Ms Edwards said the stables were decorated like a "real winter wonderland", with live music and a string quartet as well as a snow machine.

She added that she hid all the suppliers in a separate barn to surprise the couple later in the evening, saying: "We all had mulled wine and mince pies and it was lovely for the suppliers to see what we had created."

However, Ms Edwards said what gave her "goose pimples" was the couple's excitement to marry each other.

She said: "Katelen was asked what what was going to be a favourite bit about the day and without hesitation she said marrying Billy, and that really came across.

"We'd done all of this stuff but equally they just wanted to get married, and it was so, so heartwarming."

Stanford Farm is primarily a festival and summer wedding venue, but Ms Edwards said she hoped to do more winter weddings in the future, after the success of the event.
