Wirral Council has revealed plans for a new neighbourhood of up to 1,200 homes.

Called Dock Branch, it would be built alongside an old railway line through central Birkenhead which is earmarked to be turned into a new park.

Draft plans say the homes would be a mix of houses, maisonettes and apartments, built in the next five to 15 years. There would also be commercial and industrial space.

The council is seeking public feedback on the scheme.

According to planning documents, certain historical buildings will be kept as part of the plans and the development will also be "designed to be carbon-negative wherever possible".

Site surveys could begin before the end of the year, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
