Melton Mowbray: Large fire rips through door factory

Firefighters have tackled a large fire that ripped through a disused door factory in Leicestershire.

Crews were called to the blaze at the former Jeld-Wen site, in Snow Hill, Melton Mowbray, just after 21:05 GMT on Tuesday.

Extra resources were requested due to the fire's scale, and at its height, eight crews and at least 32 firefighters attended.

Firefighters remain at the scene dampening down hotspots.

The factory, which manufactured doors, windows, patios and stairs, closed in 2022.

Plans have been submitted to Melton Borough Council to build almost 300 homes on the site.

Leicestershire Police said officers attended the scene and no arrests had been made.
