Bradford: Man dies after falling into hole in road

A man has died after falling into a trench that had been dug during gas repairs in Bradford.

Emergency services were called to Highgate Road, in Queensbury, at about 07:20 GMT on Monday to "reports of a concern for safety".

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said crew members who attended the scene had "helped to free an individual who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene".

West Yorkshire Police said it was not treating the man's death as suspicious.

A force spokesperson said: "At 7.19 this morning officers were called by the ambulance service to reports of a concern for safety at Highgate Road, Queensbury.

"A man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
