Drug dealer jailed over £1m ketamine haul

Uzair Hamid was jailed for seven years and six months

A drug dealer caught with ketamine with an estimated street value of up to £1.5m has been jailed.

Uzair Hamid, 30, of Deveron Grove,Huddersfield was arrested at his home in May 2025, as part of an investigation into a suspected drugs supply network in Kirklees.

He was sentenced to seven years and six months in prisonat Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

At the same court Kai Helliwell, 25, who police said worked with Hamid, was sentenced to three years in prison, for possession with intent to supply cocaine and conspiracy to supply cocaine.

Hamid admitted a number of drug offences, including being concerned in the supply of ketamine, possession with intent to supply ketamine and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He was also sentenced for conspiring to supply cocaine and being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug.

The ketamine was valued as being worth between £511,000 and £1,460,000 by specialists, West Yorkshire Police said.

Helliwell, of Whitwell Drive, Elland, was also arrested in May 2025, while driving in the Fixby area of Huddersfield.

Cocaine said to be worth between £5,396 and £9,516, was seized from his vehicle.

Following the convictions, Det Insp Kevin Daly said: "We welcome the sentencing of Hamid and Helliwell, who both admitted being involved in drug dealing in our communities, and were caught as part of our long running investigations into organised crime networks in West Yorkshire.

"We continue to operate multiple ongoing investigations regarding both drugs supply and wider related organised crime across the force area and appeal for anyone who has information about suspected criminal activity."
