Isle of Wight: Island line closed for flood defence maintenance
South Western RailwayA railway line will be closed until Tuesday 12 March for vital flood defence maintenance.
The Isle of Wight's Island Line will be closed in its entirety, from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin.
Rail replacement buses will operate instead of trains, for all five days.
Mark Dunn, South Western Railway's (SWR) Island Line General Manager said customers should allow extra time for their journeys and check the SWR website for bus timetables.
Track upgrades, vegetation management work and structural surveys will take place alongside the flood defence work.
Mr Dunn apologised to for the disruption caused by the work. He said: "Following January's severe weather we will improve our flood defences and, while there are no trains running, it makes sense to add other work we would otherwise look to carry out at weekends."
