Isle of Wight: Rocks tumble towards house in Ventnor landslip

A road has been closed following a landslip that sent rocks tumbling towards the back of a house.

Emergency services, including the police and fire crews, were called to Zig Zag Road in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight on Friday evening.

Isle of Wight Council said it had assessed the damage and found there had been no impact on the road.

The authority said it would remain closed while Island Roads carried out a further review.

Inspectors visited the site at 08:00 GMT and found there had been a "small landfall at the rear of a private property".

The council said it had spoken to the owners of the property affected, "who emphasise that the retaining wall failure occurred in January".

It continued: "While some additional material has come down, comprehensive surveys have been conducted, and engineering designs for repair are already in progress."

There is thought to be a low level of risk - although more mud could move today, Isle of Wight Council added.

The authority's building control team was expected to visit the site later on Saturday to assess the area.
